i would just like to say that at 2:30 am today in the ersatz tent city created in a local park as part of the protest in toronto against the G8/G20 meetings happening here, a young shirtless and dreadlocked man proceeded to unfurl and inflate a large children's wading pool, fill it with "120 dollars worth" of baby oil, and announce that the oil wrestling was about to get underway. a police surveillance dude in newly-purchased 'casual' clothes was taking many photos at this point, trailed by his small (cute) white terrier dog. i highly disapprove of the misuse of animals in this way. particularly cute terriers, for which i've a fondness. i'm beginning to see evidence that the $900 million dollar security budget seems like it will fund an exercise for police from multiple canadian regions in tactics, new crowd control weapons, and the whole apparatus generally. they can't possibly expect the response of people here to require like 30 times more money for security than those in pittsburgh and london. amirite?

postscript: also for the record, naomi klein's rhetoric convinced at the very least 100 attendees and participants from this council of canadians event to march to the park in solidarity. naomi spoke, solidarity was expressed, and the attendees moved along. i mention this chiefly because omg does this mean amy goodman was at the tent city??(!) girlish squeal!
